This portion of Al-Kitab takes its name from people to whom it was originally written–followers of ‘Isa al-Masih who lived inthe city of Thessalonica. Thessalonica is now called Thessaloniki and is located in Greece. The apostle Paul (pbuh) spent a few weeks there before he was forced to leave (see Acts 17:10-15). He wrote this letter to encourage the believers, urge them to live a worthy life, and teach them about the second coming of ‘Isa al-Masih to earth in the future. Each chapter mentions the return of al-Masih. The letter teaches that those who have hope in the second coming of ‘Isa al-Masih will find no place in their lives for the worship of idols, laziness in their work, fighting with other believers, despair regarding the future, or habitual sin in their lives. The truth of the return of ‘Isa al-Masih has a cleansing effect in the life of a believer.
