Zabur 132

A Song of Ascents.

1YAHWEH,1 remember Dawud and all his affliction,
2How he swore to YAHWEH,
And vowed to the Mighty One of Yaqub:
3Surely I will not come into the structure of my house,
Nor go up into my bed;
4I will not give sleep to my eyes,
Or slumber to my eyelids;
5Until I find out a place for YAHWEH,
A dwelling for the Mighty One of Yaqub.”

6Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah.
We found it in the field of Jaar:
7We will go into his dwelling place.
We will worship at his footstool.
8Arise, YAHWEH, into your resting place;
You, and the ark of your strength.
9Let your priest be clothed with righteousness.
Let your saints shout for joy!”

10For your servant Dawud’s sake,
Do not turn away the face of your MASIH.2

11YAHWEH has sworn to Dawud in truth.
He will not turn from it:
I will set the fruit of your body on your throne.3
12If your children will keep my covenant,
My testimony that I will teach them,
Their children also will sit on your throne forevermore.”

13For YAHWEH has chosen Al-Quds.4
He has desired it for his dwelling place.
14This is my resting place forever.
Here I will live, for I have desired it.
15I will abundantly bless her provision.
I will satisfy her poor with bread.
16Her priests I will also clothe with salvation.
Her saints will shout aloud for joy.
17There I will make the horn of Dawud to bud.
I have ordained a lamp for my MASIH.
18I will clothe his enemies with shame,
But on himself, his crown will be resplendent.”

  1. 132:1 YAHWEH, the name God revealed to Prophet Musa in the Taurat, Exodus 3:15 – God said moreover to Musa, “You shall tell Bani-Israel this, ‘YAHWEH, the God of your fathers, the God of Ibrahim, the God of Ishaq, and the God of Yaqub, has sent me to you.’ This is my Name forever, and this is how I am to be remembered to all generations.” ↩︎
  2. 132:10 MASIH – an Arabic title equivalent to Messiah (Hebrew) or Christ (Greek), all of which mean Anointed One, that is, God’s Chosen One. In ancient times, divinely-appointed kings, priests and prophets were anointed with oil at their installation ceremony. All of them point ahead to God’s ultimate Anointed One, the Messiah, AL-MASIH.  Only one prophet has been deemed worthy to bear the title AL-MASIH, namely, ‘ISA Ibn Maryam. He is the one whom God sent into this world to save people from sin, and to usher in God’s Kingdom at his Second Coming. ↩︎
  3. 132:11 In the Injil, Acts 2:29-30, the Apostle Peter claims that this promise was fulfilled in ‘ISA AL-MASIH, saying, “Brothers, I may tell you freely of the patriarch Dawud, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, he would raise up AL-MASIH to sit on his throne.” ↩︎
  4. 132:13 Al-Quds, meaning “the Holy (City).” The Hebrew text reads Zion, a synonym for Jerusalem. It originally referred to Mount Zion, one of the hills of Jerusalem. ↩︎
