Proverbs

This portion of Al-Kitab is a collection of words of wisdom and godly common sense. They have been written so that young people might learn from the mistakes of those who have gone before, and not fall into the same errors. The purpose of Proverbs is given in chapter 1, verses 1 to 7. Briefly stated, it is to give a young person wisdom and insight so that his life may be happy and that he avoid evil. A key verse is found in Proverbs 9:10–

The fear of Allah is the beginning of wisdom.
The knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.

The prophet-king Sulayman (pbuh) along with others, wrote on various subjects of practical import for daily life including child rearing, sexual temptation, alcohol, land ownership, government, money, possessions, health, neighbours, bribery, gossip, and many other things.
