This portion of Al-Kitab takes its name from its author, Prophet Micah (pbuh). He lived at a time when the rich among his people (Bani-Israel) were getting richer, and the poor were becoming poorer. The Jews conducted business and trade with the idolatrous nations around them, but also brought back false religious ideas to their own people. They became unethical and immoral in their thoughts and deeds. It was in this kind of spiritual darkness that Prophet Micah (pbuh) lived and spoke for Allah. Three cities figure prominently in his prophecies: Samaria, Jerusalem, and Bethlehem.
