A Song of Ascents.
1Blessed is everyone who fears YAHWEH,1
Who walks in his ways.
2For you will eat the labour of your hands.
You will be happy, and it will be well with you.
3Your wife will be as a fruitful vine,
In the innermost parts of your house;
Your children like olive plants,
Around your table.
4Behold, thus is the man blessed who fears YAHWEH.
5May YAHWEH bless you out of Al-Quds,2
And may you see the good of Jerusalem all the days of your life.
6Yes, may you see your children’s children.
Peace be upon Israel.
- 128:1 YAHWEH, the name God revealed to Prophet Musa in the Taurat, Exodus 3:15 – God said moreover to Musa, “You shall tell Bani-Israel this, ‘YAHWEH, the God of your fathers, the God of Ibrahim, the God of Ishaq, and the God of Yaqub, has sent me to you.’ This is my Name forever, and this is how I am to be remembered to all generations.” ↩︎
- 128:5 Al-Quds, meaning “the Holy (City).” The Hebrew text reads Zion, a synonym for Jerusalem. It originally referred to Mount Zion, one of the hills of Jerusalem. ↩︎
