1May YAHWEH2 answer you in the day of trouble.
May the Name of the God of Yaqub set you up on high,
2Send you help from the sanctuary,
Grant you support from Al-Quds3,
3Remember all your offerings,
And accept your burnt sacrifice. Selah.
4May He grant you your heart’s desire,
And fulfill all your counsel.
5We will triumph in your salvation.
In the Name of our God we will set up our banners:
May YAHWEH grant all your requests.
6Now I know that YAHWEH saves his Anointed.4
He will answer him from his holy heaven,
With the saving strength of his right hand.
7Some trust in chariots, and some in horses,
But we trust in the Name of YAHWEH our God.
8They are bowed down and fallen,
But we rise up, and stand upright.
9Save, YAHWEH;
Let the King answer us when we call!

- 20:2 Al-Quds, meaning “the Holy (City).” The Hebrew text reads Zion, a synonym for Jerusalem. It originally referred to Mount Zion, one of the hills of Jerusalem. ↩︎
- 20:6 Anointed, in Hebrew Mashiah, which gives rise to the Arabic Masih, and the English Messiah. In ancient Israel, kings, priests and prophets were anointed with oil to signify their divine appointment to office. All of these anointed individuals point ahead to the ultimate Anointed One or Messiah (AL-MASIH) whose coming God has promised in his holy word. Al-Kitab unanimously points to ‘ISA Ibn Maryam as the only person worthy to bear the title AL-MASIH. He is the one whom God sent into this world to save people from sin, and to usher in God’s Kingdom at his Second Coming. ↩︎
