James

This portion of Al-Kitab takes its name from its author, James (pbuh). James (pbuh) was brother to Jude (pbuh) and half-brother of ‘Isa Ibn Maryam‘Isa al-Masih was born to Maryam while she was a virgin, without a human father by the power of Allah. Later, James (pbuh) was born to Maryam and her husband Yusuf. So ‘Isa (Spirit of Allah) and James shared the same mother, but not the same father. James (pbuh) was the leader in the local congregation of believers in Jerusalem (see Acts 15). Like ‘Isa Ibn Maryam his older half-brother, James (pbuh) was a Jew. In this letter, writing as a prophet, he gives practical words of advice to other Jews who were followers of ‘Isa al-Masih. He speaks on such subjects as wealth and poverty, greed, good character, faith and works, appropriate speech, wisdom, quarrels, pride, humility, criticism of others, patience, prayer and healing.
