James

This portion of Al-Kitab takes its name from its author, James. He was brother to Jude, who wrote a letter by the same name in the Injil. James was also half-brother of ‘ISA Ibn Maryam. ‘ISA AL-MASIH was born to Maryam while she was still a virgin, without a human father and by the power of Almighty God. Later, James was born to Maryam and her husband Yusuf (Joseph). So ISA AL-MASIH and James shared the same mother, but not the same father. James became a key leader in the early Christian church in Jerusalem (see Acts 15). Like ISA Ibn Maryam his older half-brother, James was Jewish by birth. In his letter, writing as a prophet, James gives practical words of advice to other Jews who were followers of ISA AL-MASIH. He speaks on such subjects as wealth and poverty, greed, good character, faith and works, appropriate speech, wisdom, quarrels, pride, humility, criticism of others, patience, prayer and healing.
