2 Corinthians

This portion of Al-Kitab takes its name from people to whom it was originally written–followers of ‘Isa al-Masih who lived inthe city of Corinth. Corinth is located in the the southern portion of the country which is now called Greece. Corinth was a major commercial and business centre. The apostle Paul (pbuh) wrote this second letter to the believers in Corinth, partly as a follow-up to his first letter. In the first letter, he had rebuked some in the congregation who were living in sin. In this second letter, Paul (pbuh) expresses his happiness that they had repented of their sin. However, there is a new problem in the group of believers. Some people were doubting that Paul (pbuh) should be respected as a prophet and apostle. So Paul (pbuh) is forced to defend his work and show that he truly is an apostle of Allah. Another interesting matter that can be learned in this letter is how the early followers of ‘Isa al-Masih helped each other financially in time of trouble.
