1He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
2I will say of YAHWEH,1 “He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in whom I trust.”
3For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler,
And from the deadly pestilence.
4He will cover you with his feathers.
Under his wings you will take refuge.
His faithfulness is your shield and rampart.
5You shall not be afraid of the terror by night,
Nor of the arrow that flies by day;
6Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness,
Nor of the destruction that wastes at noonday.
7A thousand may fall at your side,
And ten thousand at your right hand;
But it will not come near you.
8You will only look with your eyes,
And see the punishment of the wicked.
9Because you have made YAHWEH your refuge,
And the Most High your dwelling place,
10No evil shall happen to you,
Neither shall any plague come near your dwelling.
11For he will give his angels charge concerning you,
To guard you in all your ways.
12They will bear you up in their hands,
So that you do not dash your foot against a stone.2
13You will tread on the lion and cobra.
You will trample the young lion and the serpent underfoot.
14“Because he has set his love on me, therefore I will deliver him.
I will set him on high, because he has known my Name.
15He will call on me, and I will answer him.
I will be with him in trouble.
I will deliver him, and honour him.
16I will satisfy him with long life,
And show him my salvation.”
- 91:2 YAHWEH, the name God revealed to Prophet Musa in the Taurat, Exodus 3:15 – God said moreover to Musa, “You shall tell Bani-Israel this, ‘YAHWEH, the God of your fathers, the God of Ibrahim, the God of Ishaq, and the God of Yaqub, has sent me to you.’ This is my Name forever, and this is how I am to be remembered to all generations.” ↩︎
- 91:11-12 Quoted in the Injil, Matthew 4:6 and Luke 4:10-11, regarding the time Prophet ‘ISA was tempted for 40 days by Satan Iblis. Matthew 4:5-7 says: Then Iblis took him into the holy city. He set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down, for it is written, ‘He will give his angels charge concerning you.’ and, ‘In their hands they will bear you up, so that you do not dash your foot against a stone.'” ‘ISA said to him, “Again, it is written, ‘You shall not test the LORD your God.'”
Luke 4:9-12 records the same event this way: He [Iblis] led him [‘ISA] to Jerusalem, and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, cast yourself down from here, for it is written, ‘He will give his angels charge concerning you, to guard you;’ and, ‘In their hands they will bear you up, so that you do not dash your foot against a stone.'” ‘ISA answering, said to him, “It has been said, ‘You shall not test the LORD your God.'” ↩︎
