Habakkuk

This portion of Al-Kitab takes its name from its author, Prophet Habakkuk (pbuh). As can be seen from chapter 3, verse 19, this scripture was given to be used in the Holy House in Jerusalem as a song for corporate worship, just like the holy Zabur. Before the Jews were carried off into Babylon, they had become totally devoted to the worship of the false gods, Baal and Ashtoreth. Allah used the Babylonians to punish Bani-Israel, even though the Babylonians were worse idol worshippers and more wicked than the Jews ever were. The prophet sees this paradox and wonders why Allah would punish his own people and yet not punish the evil Babylonians. Allah’s answer is that wickedness has within itself the seeds of its own destruction, while Allah’s righteous servants will live because of their genuine faith.
