Obadiah

This portion of Al-Kitab takes its name from its author, Prophet Obadiah (pbuh). The name Obadiah is the equivalent in Hebrew of the Arabic name Abdullah, meaning “worshipper of Allah.” This short scripture has but one subject, the destruction of Edom. The Edomites were descendants of Esau, the twin brother of Prophet Yaqub (pbuh). They hated Bani-Israel even though they were related. They attacked them time to time and always stood as enemies against them. When Jerusalem was destroyed, the Edomites shouted for joy.
