This is a very important and amazing portion of Al-Kitab. It is named after the prophet mentioned in its pages, Prophet Daniel (pbuh). It contains a wonderful example of keeping oneself from worship of images, predictions concerning al-Masih‘s coming into the world, and details of many future events. Prophet Daniel (pbuh) was one of those Jews who was led captive to Babylon in 604 B.C. His name means “Allah is my judge.” From his character and behaviour it can be seen that he lived by that truth. Due to his intelligence, education and spiritual insight, Daniel (pbuh) served as a senior official in the royal court of King Nebuchadnezzar and King Belshazzar. Later, when Babylon fell to the Persians, Daniel (pbuh) was one of the top three government officials during the reigns of King Darius and Cyrus the Mede. This scripture of Daniel (pbuh) is arranged in such a way that the first six chapters are mostly narratives of events in the life of Daniel (pbuh). The last six chapters are mostly predictive prophecy of future events. Daniel chapter 2, verse 4 to chapter 7, verse 28 were written originally in Aramaic, the official language of the Babylonian Empire at that time. The remainder of Daniel was written in Hebrew, the language of the Jews.
