There are 17 chapters in this section. While Prophet Asaph (pbuh) appears to have penned most of them, Prophet Dawud wrote Zabur 86, Heman the Ezraite wrote Zabur 88, and Ethan the Ezraite wrote the 89th chapter.
This section relates to Leviticus due in part to the fact that most of the chapters were written by prophet-priests descended from Levi ibn Yaqub. These were written to be sung in Prophet Sulayman’s Holy House in Jerusalem. These chapters remind us that only Allah is holy and that we should remember our place before Him. When we come into God’s presence, we should have reverential fear.
The introduction to this book announces, “Surely God is good to Israel” (73:1). Allah has been just in all of His dealings with Bani Israel despite the sufferings that the people often went through. The closing doxology also has the double Amen, and speaks of the fact that Allah has kept His covenant with Prophet Dawud (pbuh), therefore He should be worshipped and praised (89).
