Yusha 14

These are the inheritances which Bani-Israel took in the land of Canaan, which Eleazar the priest, and Yusha bin Nun, and the heads of the fathers’ houses of the tribes of Bani-Israel, distributed to them, 2by the lot of their inheritance, as Allah commanded by Musa, for the nine tribes, and for the half-tribe. 3For Musa had given the inheritance of the two tribes and the half-tribe beyond the Jordan: but to the Levites he gave no inheritance among them. 4For the children of Yusuf were two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim: and they gave no portion to the Levites in the land, save cities to dwell in, with its suburbs for their cattle and for their substance. 5As Allah commanded Musa, so Bani-Israel did; and they divided the land. 6Then the children of Judah drew near to Yusha in Gilgal: and Qalib IbnJephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, You know the thing that Allah spoke to Musa the man of God concerning me and concerning you in Kadesh-barnea. 7Forty years old was I when Musa the servant of Allah sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land; and I brought him word again as it was in my heart. 8Nevertheless my brothers who went up with me made the heart of the people melt; but I wholly followed Allah my God. 9Musa swore on that day, saying, Surely the land whereon your foot has trodden shall be an inheritance to you and to your children forever, because you have wholly followed Allah my God. 10Now, behold, Allahhas kept me alive, as he spoke, these forty-five years, from the time that Allah spoke this word to Musa, while Israel walked in the wilderness: and now, behold, I am this day eighty-five years old. 11As yet I am as strong this day as I as in the day that Musa sent me: as my strength was then, even so is my strength now, for war, and to go out and to come in. 12Now therefore give me this hill-country, of which Allah spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the Anakim were there, and cities great and fortified: it may be that Allah will be with me, and I shall drive them out, as Allah spoke. 13Yusha blessed him; and he gave Hebron to Qalib IbnJephunneh for an inheritance. 14Therefore Hebron became the inheritance of Qalib Ibn Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day; because that he wholly followed Allah, the God of Israel. 15Now the name of Hebron before was Kiriath Arba; which Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim. The land had rest from war.
