Introduction to the Holy Taurat (Law)<\/span><\/span><\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

The name\u00a0Taurat<\/span><\/em>\u00a0comes from the Hebrew word\u00a0Torah<\/em>, which literally means instruction<\/em>. The Taurat<\/span>\u00a0<\/em>is the\u00a0instruction\u00a0<\/em>which Almighty God gave to Bani-Israel through the holy Prophet Musa<\/span><\/span>. The Taurat<\/i>\u00a0contains five books or sections as follows: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. Collectively, these five are also called the\u00a0Pentateuch<\/em>, a word of Greek origin meaning “the five-fold book.”<\/p>\n

However, the\u00a0instruction<\/em> (i.e. the Taurat<\/em>) given to Bani-Israel did not end with Prophet Musa<\/span><\/span>. Other well-known prophets followed in his<\/span> footsteps including Prophet Yusha, Ilyas<\/span><\/span>, Al-Yasa, Dawud<\/span><\/span>, Sulayman<\/span><\/span>, Ayub, Armiya, Dhul-Kifl, Yunus<\/span><\/span>, Zakariyya<\/span><\/span> and many others. Their writings are collected here along with all the instruction <\/em>given to the Jewish people that started with the Prophet Musa<\/span><\/span>. As a result, altogether they are called the Taurat<\/span><\/em>, the revelation given to the Jews, as the following verse says, “It was we who revealed the Taurat<\/span><\/em>: in it is guidance and light. By its standard the Jews have been judged, by the prophets who submitted to God’s will…” (Quran<\/em>, Surah 5:44).<\/p>\n

Today this collection is often called the\u00a0Old Testament<\/em>\u00a0by Christians. The Jews call it the\u00a0Tanakh<\/em>, which is a brief way of referring to the TAurat, the NAbhim, and the KHetubim (the Law, the Prophets, and the Writings). Here we simply call it the holy Taurat<\/span><\/em>, that is, the instruction <\/em>given to Bani-Israel.<\/p>\n
